Yankees’ Cano now has Boras as agent

Scott Boras lost one Yankees superstar from his stable last year when Alex Rodriguez parted ways with the agent, but he added a new one yesterday in Robinson Cano.

Cano previously had been represented by Bobby Barad. The Yankees second baseman is under contract through 2013, but the 28-year-old is sure to land a huge deal when he becomes a free agent.

Cano had a stellar 2010 season, finishing third in the MVP voting and winning his first Gold Glove. He hit .319 with 29 home runs and 109 RBIs.

Boras also represents first baseman Mark Teixeira and new reliever Rafael Soriano.

The Yankees gave Cano a four-year, $30 million in 2008. He will earn $10 million this year, with team options for 2012 ($14 million) and 2013 ($15 million).

The Yankees added two potential backup infielders yesterday, signing Ronnie Belliard and Eric Chavez to minor-league contracts.

Belliard, 35, hit .216 in 82 games for the Dodgers last year. He will earn $825,000 plus incentives if he makes the major-league team. Chavez, 33, has played in 64 games for the A’s in the past three years because of injuries. Terms of his deal were not released.
