Michele’s campaign hair rai$er

WASHINGTON — Rep. Michele Bachmann spent nearly $5,000 on hair and makeup in the early weeks of her presidential campaign, according to campaign-finance filings uncovered yesterday by Mother Jones magazine.

The Minnesota Republican and Tea Party favorite made three payments of $1,715, $250, and $2,704 to a Maryland-based hair and makeup artist in the weeks after she launched her presidential run, according to her Federal Election Commission report.

The steep tab could become a thorn in the side of the fiscal conservative in the same way that former presidential candidate John Edwards’ $400 haircut became an issue on the 2008 campaign trail.

The 55-year-old Bachmann spent less than $1,000 for makeup and hair styling during her congressional re-election run in 2010.

“I know for a fact, if Michele has to pay for makeup, she will usually instead do it herself,” celebrity stylist Natalie Hale, who had worked on her prior campaigns, told the Minneapolis City Pages in February.
