Norway madman used exploding bullets to ensure maximum carnage

The Norwegian neo-Nazi who murdered at least 93 people meticulously plotted his bloodbath to ensure maximum carnage — loading his rifle with special ammo that would explode inside his victims’ bodies, and planning the Oslo bomb blast to divert police from his shooting spree, officials said yesterday.

Anders Behring Breivik, 32, admitted that he had planted the Oslo bomb, which killed seven people, before beginning a 90-minute shooting rampage that took the lives of 86 others at a youth camp on Utoya island.

He picked off some campers one by one, and sprayed groups with “dum-dum” bullets from his assault rifle, authorities said.

“These bullets . . . exploded inside the body . . . [and] inflicted internal damage that’s absolutely horrible,” said Dr. Colin Poole, who treated victims.

While Breivik told cops he acted alone, Scotland Yard is investigating whether he had accomplices in Britain who might be planning similar attacks, The Daily Telegraph reports today.

The fiend’s manifesto boasted that he is only one of up to 80 underground “solo, martyr cells” aiming to destroy Muslims.

He claimed to have been recruited at a meeting in London in 2002 and that he has an English “mentor” named Richard.

Breivik — who wants to wear a uniform during his scheduled court appearance today — said his hatred for Islam began during the first Gulf War, when a Muslim pal cheered after US forces were attacked.

His lawyer, Geir Lippestad, told the Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang that his client knows that while the Oslo attacks were “cruel . . . in his mind [they were] necessary.”

Breivik has been charged with two acts of terrorism — yet faces a maximum of only 21 years.

“We don’t add up the charges consecutively, like the United States does,” a police spokeswoman told The Post.

But police can keep him jailed as long as he’s perceived as a threat.

“I feel deep sorrow and dismay over what has happened,” his estranged father, Jens Breivik, 70, a retired diplomat living in France, told Verdens Gang.

The unmarried suspect lived with his mother, a nurse. His parents split when he was a baby.

To all appearances, he was a well-to-do businessman running a farming enterprise.

But in his manifesto, he called for a “conservative revolution” to rid Europe of Islam and Marxism.

He bizarrely noted that he had set aside money to visit a prostitute.

“I have reserved 2,000 euro from my operations budget which I intend to spend on a high quality model escort girl one week prior to execution of the mission,” he wrote.

He also plagiarized passages from Unabomber Ted Kaczynski.
