James Franco returning to ‘General Hospital’ for possible longterm stint

LOS ANGELES — Actor James Franco will make another appearance on “General Hospital” in September, a rep for the soap opera told TV Guide Monday.

His upcoming participation will be part of a “longterm” plot line so he could emerge in future episodes this season, the rep added.

Franco, 33, first played artist/serial killer Robert “Franco” Frank on the ABC show in 2009, for a two month run.

He then reprised the role in February, while he was in Los Angeles to co-host the Academy Awards with “The Devil Wears Prada” star Anne Hathaway.

Meanwhile, the “127 Hours” actor is nursing a heartbreak this summer following his split from actress Ahna O’Reilly after five years together.

“It’s over … We’d been living together in LA and then came to New York to go to school for two years [at NYU.] Then I signed up for more school at Yale. I think that was it for her,” he told Playboy magazine in its August issue.
