Harlem man unable to hail cab after being shot

A 20-year-old Harlem man was shot inside a housing project this morning and then stumbled bleeding out onto the street and ran two blocks trying to hail a taxi to the hospital — but cabbies refused to take him, a witness said.

“He tried to get a cab to take him to the hospital, but nobody was stopping for him,” said a neighbor named Strawberry, who declined to give her last name. “Four cabs passed him away.”

The man had been shot on his left arm minutes earlier on the eleventh floor of the Harlem River housing development at 152nd Street and 8th Avenue, authorities said.

Witnesses said he ran out down 8th Avenue to 150th Street trying unsuccessfully to hail a cab to the hospital for fifteen minutes before cops and an ambulance came. Local residents gave him water.

An ambulance finally took the man to Harlem Hospital with his non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
