Seton Hall names Sky Blue coach assistant

Former Sky Blue FC coach Rich Stainton has been hired as an assistant women’s soccer coach at Seton Hall.

Pirates coach Kazbek Tambi announced the move Monday.

Stainton had been the assistant director for facilities and operations and the women’s soccer program administrator at Seton Hall for more than two years prior to leaving to become the goalkeeper coach for Sky Blue FC of Women’s Professional Soccer in March of 2010.

Stainton was named the Sky Blue’s head coach in July 2010 and U.S. National Team members Tobin Heath, Carli Lloyd, Heather O’Reilly and Christie Rampone all benefited from his tutelage. Twelve players who competed in the 2011 Women’s World Cup were coached by Stainton.

Stainton previously coached collegiately at Rider, Caldwell College and Green Mountain College. He also served as coach of the boys varsity soccer team at Brick Memorial High School for five years.
