Giants coach open to Burress chat

Tom Coughlin has told GM Jerry Reese he is willing to sit down and talk with Plaxico Burress, a sign the Giants head coach has not completely ruled out a return for the talented receiver.

Coughlin has had more than his share of differences with Burress but, according to someone with knowledge of the Giants thinking, Coughlin has made it clear Burress is not off limits as far as he is concerned.

While the notion of Burress — who made the game-winning catch in Super Bowl XLII before spending 21 months in prison on a gun charge — returning to the Giants remains far-fetched, it has not been dismissed out of hand by the team’s top decision-makers.

Giants co-owner John Mara yesterday seemed to indicate the same thing when he said yesterday on 1050 ESPN Radio that his team has not discounted Burress.

“I think that’s certainly something we’re going to talk about and have talked about,” Mara said. “Where that goes, I don’t know.”

Where that goes could be a sit-down with Coughlin — if Burress is willing. His recent comments indicate he has no real desire to return to the Giants.
