Tiger Woods ends relationship with sponsor Tag Heuer

AKRON, Ohio — Luxury watchmaker Tag Heuer became the latest corporate sponsor to end its association with fallen golf superstar Tiger Woods, who was set to complete his final round Sunday at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, confirmed that his client’s relationship with Tag “expired,” Ron Sirak of Golf World reported Saturday.

The Swiss company previously halted any use of the golfer’s image in its US advertising campaign after the revelations about his serial adultery came to light in 2009 and “downscaled” his presence in its international campaigns.

Tag became the sixth sponsor to split with Woods, USA Today reported, following major brands Gillette, Gatorade, Accenture, AT&T and Golf Digest.

Woods’ hopes for better fortunes on the golf course, meanwhile, faded heading into Sunday’s final round at Firestone.

His low-key comeback from injury continued Saturday as he fired a two-over 72 that left him in a tie for 38th alongside Phil Mickelson, among others.
