NYPD cop pleads not guilty for shooting gal pal’s ex-boyfriend

A 17-year NYPD veteran assigned to Mayor Bloomberg’s security detail pleaded not guilty today for allegedly shooting his gal pal’s ex-boyfriend in the buttocks last year.

Leopold McLean, 46, was arraigned on a 20-count indictment for charges including second-degree attempted murder for gunning LePaul Gammons in the behind as he ran away from his former girlfriend and the alleged shooter.

Gammons, 39, was violating an order of protection filed by the woman when he showed up at her Queens home on November 12.

McLean allegedly told NYPD Internal Affairs investigators that Gammons attacked him with a knife and was forced to shoot.

Further forensic investigations revealed that the angle to which Gammons was shot did not match McLean’s account of the incident.

The decorated officer — released on $10,000 bail in November — was also charged with assault, falsifying business records, criminal use of a firearm, tampering with physical evidence, official misconduct, reckless endangerment and other charges.

Since the shooting, Gammons was busted twice in February and March for his involvement in selling stolen car parts, possession of forged instruments, grand larceny, reckless driving, driving with a license that was suspended 113 times and other charges.

Despite Gammons reported plans to file a $5 million lawsuit against the city for the shooting, he is currently incarcerated and will be up for parole in July 2012.
