11-year-old ‘mayor’ renames Texas street after Justin Bieber

FORNEY, Texas — What do you get if your mayor is an 11–year-old girl? A street named after Justin Bieber.

Young Caroline Gonzalez did her best to get the Canadian pop star’s attention Tuesday when, in her role as “mayor for a day” of her home town in Texas, she rebranded a street in his honor.

Caroline won the right to be mayor of Forney, 23 miles east of Dallas, for 24 hours through a Facebook competition designed to promote interest in politics among young people, the Dallas Morning News reported.

Her first act was to rename part of Main Street “Justin Bieber Way.”

Asked by E! Online why she chose to honor the singer, Caroline said, “Because I really like Justin Bieber. I like his music and I like him.”

She added, “And I thought, why not have a street in my home town named after my favorite singer?”

The sign — which cost the city $20 — would only be displayed Tuesday, the Dallas Morning News reported.
