Pets in perpetuity

Jennifer Aniston recently paid tribute to her dog Norman, a Welsh corgi-terrier mix who died in May at age 15, by tattooing his name on the inside of her right foot. But she’s not the only one who’s inking her undying devotion to her pet. These New Yorkers have all celebrated their hounds with a permanent tribute.

“For the past 15 years, my wife Debbie and I have had three dogs in our lives: Ebony, Casey and Maxie. Our canine friends have taught us life lessons about unconditional love, devotion, loyalty and friendship. Casey passed away at the end of 2009 and Ebony passed away in March. I knew I had to pay tribute to them, so I went to Brooklyn Tattoo to have this done. Ebony went over my heart — she was our first dog, so we like to credit her for opening our hearts to them. Casey is on my shoulder and Maxie is on my left arm. The roses connect them all and represent the love my wife and I will always have for the three of them.”

Tiffany Mamone, Long Island City, Queens

“I am a proud, crazy cat lady. I love tattoos and I love my cats. My very talented friend Kyle, at Red Rocket Tattoo, did an amazing job capturing their wacky personalities. Emily has a bad attitude and will not stand for home intruders such as bugs or vermin, hence the beaten-up mouse with half of his poor little face torn off. Victor suffers from separation anxiety, and as a result gets an inflamed lower lip. He lives in his own world and is spacey, which is symbolized by the cute but stupid-looking bird. My cat portraits are on my calves because I wanted them side-by-side. I love them!”

Josh Newberg, 28, Sag Harbor, LI

“I got this tattoo of my dog Bromley in May at Inkstop in the East Village after my dog passed away. Bromley lived to be 18. We grew up together through middle school, high school and college. I put the tattoo on my left thigh, which is becoming a memorial for those who are close to me who have passed on. My thigh already had a piece dedicated to a close friend who passed away a couple years ago. In the tattoo, Bromley is looking up at me, just like he would when he’d lie on the back porch in the sunshine. The position really captured Bromley’s calm state and his relaxed personality around friends and family.”

Kevin Wilson, 30, Upper East Side

“My dog Lennon is my little kid. My fiancé and I got him when he was only a few weeks old, so we’ve watched him grow into a little man. Lennon is super smart, so I wanted my tattoo to convey that. We gave Lennon a very sophisticated look with a top hat, monocle and little pipe in his mouth. I got this done at Sacred Tattoo in SoHo, where I work, and I got the tattoo on the inner part of my leg. Now, everytime I sit down and fold my legs, I see my smart little dog.”
