Title of Katie Couric’s daytime talk show revealed

Former “CBS Evening News” anchor Katie Couric’s new syndicated daytime talk show now has a title, TV Newser reported Monday.

The hour-long show will simply be titled “Katie,” two sources close to the show said.

“Katie” is scheduled to debut in September 2012 on ABC owned-and-operated stations.

Jeff Zucker, former chief executive of NBCUniversal and executive producer of “Today” during Couric’s stint as co-host, hinted at the title in June.

Speaking at the Promax/BDA entertainment marketing conference in New York, Zucker said, “Katie is a unique brand in television. The mere fact that you can just say ‘Katie’ and know who we are talking about is evidence of that.”

Zucker is co-executive producer of “Katie” alongside Couric.

Couric announced on April 26 that she was leaving “The CBS Evening News” after nearly five years, following weeks of speculation surrounding her departure. Her final turn at the CBS anchor’s desk aired May 19.

Couric gained national attention when she became co-host of NBC’s “Today” show in 1991. She left the popular morning show in 2006 to anchor the nightly news for CBS.
