‘Desperate’ seeks Susan

Susan Lucci isn’t hanging up her eyelashes just yet.

The “All My Children” warhorse, whose show is about to go out to pasture, has met with “Desperate Housewives” creator Marc Cherry to chat about the future. Not just hers, but theirs. They had lunch. On the Web site Daytime Confidential, Cherry, whose pilot “Hallelujah!,” is currently being “retooled,” was quoted as saying to a soap opera magazine, “I don’t know what she’ll be on ‘Desperate,’ but hopefully maybe something in the future.”

The rumor of a Lucci migration from Pine Valley to Wisteria Lane surfaced earlier this year, and quickly gained momentum after ABC’s shocking and abrupt cancellation of “All My Children,” whose last airdate, Sept. 23, is only two days away from the final season premiere of “Housewives” on Sept. 25. Can we say seamless segue?

Lucci spokesperson Fran Curtis says her client is having a lot of lunches these days with LA types just like Cherry.

“A lot of people are interested, but there’s nothing specific yet,” she says. “There are no definite plans yet.”

But Cherry can hope, can’t he? Now that the finale of “Desperate Housewives” has been announced, he needs to give the show a proper send-off. But the network has dismissed reports of Lucci coming over to scheme with “DH” stars Eva Longoria, Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross and Felicity Huffman.
