Ridley Scott to direct a new ‘Blade Runner’

LOS ANGELES — Ridley Scott has signed on to direct and produce a new installment of his sci-fi classic “Blade Runner,” Deadline.com reported Thursday.

Like Scott’s forthcoming 3D movie “Prometheus” — rumored to have ties to his 1979 hit “Alien” — it was unclear whether the new “Blade Runner” will be a prequel, sequel or a reboot of the 1982 original, the entertainment website said.

Scott will make the film with Alcon Entertainment, which produced 2009’s “The Blind Side,” Deadline.com reported.

“Blade Runner,” starring Harrison Ford, was based loosely on Philip K. Dick’s novel “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” and grossed $32 million in its original run, picking up critical acclaim over time.
