Infection will keep Green out of Jets’ game

The Jets will be without starting running back Shonn Greene on Sunday when they face the Bengals in their second preseason game.

The third-year back has a low-grade skin infection on his right foot. The Jets said the infection was caught early and is being treated with antibiotics. The doctors cannot rule out a staph infection because Greene does not have an open wound and it can’t be cultured.

Greene rushed for 766 yards and two touchdowns last season and the Jets expect him to be their lead back this season. The absence of Greene on Sunday could mean a lot of work for rookie Bilal Powell. It is doubtful the Jets want to use veteran LaDainian Tomlinson too much and second-year back Joe McKnight has a concussion.
