Police cruiser hits soccer boy, 5, on SI

A 5-year-old boy was hit by a police car as he walked to soccer practice with his mother last night on Staten Island, cops said.

The youngster had exited a parked car near Mahoney Park when the police cruiser, responding to a gunshot call, sent him flying into a fence, witnesses said.

“He must have gone 30 feet before a fence stopped him and he was laying there bleeding from his head,” said a witness, Wanda Ortiz.

A driver stopped and wrapped a T-shirt around the boy’s head before medics arrived.

He was rushed to Richmond University Hospital with minor cuts and bruises, authorities said.

Cops would not say how fast the car was going, but said that its lights were flashing and its siren was sounding.
