Bronx kids enroll-er coaster

A Bronx school-enrollment office has been closing its doors to parents before 10 a.m. this week because staffers claim they can process only 70 families a day.

Incensed parents said they’ve been turned away twice this week from enrolling their kids in the public-school system, even though some arrived at the Fordham Heights office before 7:30 a.m.

“I’m angry, I’m upset,” said Nelis Medina, whose two kids recently moved from the Dominican Republic to The Bronx. “I’ve already missed two days of work.”

Nearly 50 parents were still lined up at 9:20 a.m. yesterday when staffers told them to come back another day, despite posted business hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“You have to be here at 7 a.m. — it’s ridiculous!” said Dulce Perez, a home health aide who showed up at 8:15 a.m.

An office staffer said they could register only 70 kids per day because of limited space in the waiting room and because the process is time-consuming.

A DOE spokesman says the office can actually serve 100 families per day and should refer families to less-crowded alternate sites.
