A 1-2-3 plea to Kim Kardashian

After months as a recluse, Kim Kardashian stepped out with Kanye West to take her place at the top of everyone’s gossip feed. Throngs of paparazzi caught the pair in Paris, black-clad and en route to the Givenchy show to support pal Riccardo Tisci. While West got it right, it was a fashion fail for her that demands a reality check for the reality star. The outfit appears to be a cry for help — so here’s our advice for Kardashian.

  1. 1. Be honest with yourself.

The outfit isn’t bad; you just look bad in it. And it’s clear the problem is more mental than physical, as these haute threads certainly beat the Hervé Leger bandage dresses of yore. As a woman who owes her fame to sexy, womanly curves, the metamorphosis of pregnancy and its assault to the body must be a particularly hard battle to face. Yet that is no excuse to squeeze yourself into ensembles that don’t fit, however chic they may be. This defeats the purpose, and leads us to the next point…

  2. 2. Black, fashion’s favorite noncolor, isn’t always slimming.

But neither was that floral carpet you wore to this year’s Met Gala. Key for you will be finding silhouettes that actually suit your shape — whatever shape that is — and that highlight your curves while also abiding codes of public decency. Cover up, woman — you’re a mom now.

  3. 3. Take more cues from West.

After years of fighting for legitimacy within the industry, he’s still fighting . . . but he looks a lot better doing it. West wears clothes that are fashion-forward yet true to his personal style. Bottega Veneta boots with a track jacket, a gentleman’s topcoat with sports-star trainers. It’s chic-meets-street with an ever-increasing air of ease, and with more baby-daddy guidance you, too, can look less like you’re trying.
