Honey, I stole the hard drive

All is fair in love and war — unless you’re divorcing a hedge fund manager.

David Simon, a New York hedge fund manager and frequent CNBC commentator, is suing his wife through his hedge fund, Twin Capital Management, accusing her of hacking into his work computer shortly after serving him with divorce papers.

In a lawsuit filed in New York state court, Twin Capital says it is seeking $25 million from Linda Simon and her attorney, Jason Advocate, because they allegedly copied the hard drive of Simon’s work computer, which contained “trade secrets” and clients’ personal financial information.

Simon, who manages about $100 million in assets, moved out of his Purchase, NY, estate to live at the Setai Hotel at the end of July, the suit said.

The suit says Simon was the only person with the password, and that records from Twin Capital’s computer-monitoring service show that someone accessed the computer after he had moved out.

Advocate didn’t immediately return a request for comment.
