Grisly LIRR accident

A man was decapitated in a gruesome accident involving a Long Island Rail Road train at Penn Station yesterday, officials said.

The man — described as in his 40s — was struck at 6:47 p.m. on Track 18 at the west end of the platform, authorities said.

It was not clear what he was doing on the tracks.

The horrible incident was under investigation last night by MTA police, but officials said it appeared that there was no criminality involved — the man either fell or jumped to the tracks.

The tragedy delayed three trains by up to 19 minutes, before the LIRR got back on schedule.
