Jets report card

OFFENSE

The offense started off quick, scoring a touchdown on its first drive, but sputtered after that. The Jets settled for too many field goals after the defense gave them great field position. Mark Sanchez (17-of-24, 182 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions) completed nine of his passes to tight ends, and failed to get his receivers involved. Plaxico Burress had no catches, and was only thrown to twice. The rushing game was non-existent again. Shonn Greene (16 rushes for 49 yards, one TD) has struggled as the featured back. C

DEFENSE

Dominant. That’s the only word to describe the defense this week. The Jets had four interceptions of Luke McCown (1.8 quarterback rating) and Antonio Cromartie nearly returned one for a touchdown. First-round pick Muhammad Wilkerson notched his first sack, for a safety in the first quarter. Maurice Jones-Drew rushed for 88 yards, but the Jets contained him for most of the day. A +

SPECIAL TEAMS

Nick Folk did not need to hit a game-winner this week, but he drilled three field goals. Cromartie (two returns for 85 yards) got the game started with a 39-yard kickoff return that led to an opening-drive touchdown. A

COACHING

Rex Ryan challenged his offense to score on the first drive this week, and it did. He made the starting offensive line and fullback John Conner captains to try to spark that group. The running game never truly got going, but it was a nice touch. Defensive coordinator Mike Pettine stumped the Jaguars all day. The big flaw was Ryan trying to force-feed a touchdown to Burress in the fourth quarter despite the Jets holding a big lead. Sanchez got drilled on the plays, even though he should not have been throwing. B
