LI clerk accused of selling over $200K in stolen goods on eBay

HEMPSTEAD — A stock room clerk at a Williams-Sonoma store on Long Island was arrested after allegedly selling stolen goods from the store worth more than $200,000 on eBay, police said Thursday.

David Muscat, 22, of Garden City, worked for six years at the home goods retail chain where he hid stolen items in the trash and later moved them into his car in the parking lot, according to investigators.

When police arrested Muscat, they found missing items from the store in his car.

Muscat is being charged with grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property for the crimes, which allegedly took place between Sept. 1, 2011 and Feb. 7, 2012.

The store is claiming a loss of more than $453,000 in stolen merchandise.

Muscat is expected to be arraigned Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead.
