Mets GM mocks money matters

Late-night TV hosts and baseball fans aren’t the only ones mocking the Mets these days.

General manager Sandy Alderson created a bit of a stir yesterday when, shortly after signing up for Twitter, he took a shot at the team’s financial woes.

“Getting ready for Spring Training-Driving to FL but haven’t left yet,” Alderson wrote with his first tweet. “Big fundraiser tonight for gas money. Also exploring PAC contribution.”

After mentioning to The Post on Wednesday he would make the trip to Port St. Lucie in his car, Alderson brought more attention to his mode of transportation.

Due at least in part to the team’s staggering financial woes, the Mets slashed their payroll roughly $50 million this offseason, from $140 million to approximately $90 million — losing Jose Reyes to the Marlins.

There also is no end in sight, as the Mets continue a court battle against the trustee for victims of the Bernard Madoff Ponzi scheme. While they hope the case against them is dismissed, it could cost the Wilpons and Co. up to $386 million.

Alderson later said he was driving because he was bringing his dog with him, and he needs a car in Florida.

* MLB said two Mets minor leaguers received 50-game suspensions after second violations of the minor league drug prevention and treatment program for drug abuse — not PEDs.

Catcher Charles “Dock” Doyle of Class-A St. Lucie and Double-A Binghamton righty Scott Moviel, will sit out the beginning of the season.
