The best medicine for miracle cop Kevin Brennan was the Giants’ victory.
Recovering in Bellevue Hospital after a thug shot him in the head, Brennan yesterday basked in Big Blue’s Super Bowl glory.
“I am feeling much better after the Giants won last night,” Brennan told The Post. “I am a big Giants fan.”
Brennan, a six-year NYPD vet shot by an alleged gangbanger last Tuesday, said his Jints passion worried his doctors at one point.
“The doctors kept telling me to stay calm. I was getting too excited at the end, but everything was all right,” said Brennan, who had a .38-caliber slug removed from his skull.
Brennan, 29, said he also had been thrilled by a visit from his wife, Janet, and their 6-week-old daughter, Maeve.
“Those were the two best times I had this week: seeing my daughter and seeing the Giants win, in that order, of course,” he said.
Brennan has already received a personal get-well note from Giants coach Tom Coughlin. He said he now wants to shake quarterback Eli Manning’s hand and also Coughlin’s for a job well done Sunday.
Brennan’s amazing turnaround came as Luis “Baby” Ortiz, the loud-mouthed alleged Latin King accused of shooting him, skipped his own indictment hearing on a first-degree attempted-murder rap after his lawyer claimed that he had been roughed up by a jail guard Thursday.
Ortiz, 21, who had taunted news photographers and other cops when he was busted last week, never left his cell to hear the charges.
“There was [a Rikers Island guard] who punched him about the head, on the right side,” Ortiz’s lawyer, Eric Poulos, told The Post.
Pat Lynch, president of the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, suggested that Ortiz didn’t show because he was simply afraid to face the sea of blue in court.
“He knew, as we always do, that police officers would be here in court to make sure justice is done, and he changed his mind,” said Lynch.
