City looking for operators to run ice rink in Williamsburg

The city has begun soliciting bids from prospective operators to run a seasonal ice-skating rink at the newly renovated, $50 million McCarren Park Pool in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

The rink would operate Oct. 15 through March 30 yearly.

The Parks Department wants to create a large a rink – potentially up to 80-by-125-feet. Operating hours have not be decided.

Built in 1936, the Olympic size pool closed in 1984 before re-opening in 2005 to host popular outdoor concerts and parties. The city began renovating it in 2009 and hopes to re-open it this spring as part of a plan that would also include a recreation center, snack shop, and rooftop cafe.
