Jimmy Kimmel slammed late-night rival Jay Leno on Monday night — after a “Tonight Show” skit in which Leno joked that Kimmel dyes his hair and wears a toupee.
“Apparently Jay Leno . . . he’s hosting ‘The Tonight Show,’ did you know this?” said Kimmel, opening his “J
immy Kimmel Live” monologue. “On Thursday night, Jay was in the middle of a comedy bit called ‘Jay’sValentine’s Gift Ideas’ — he’s always coming up with great new stuff,” Kimmel said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “He’s going through some of his ideas, and guess who’s name came up?”
Kimmel then replayed the last part of Leno’s sketch, in which Jay showed off a “beautiful wrap made from discarded celebrity toupees” including “two Shatners, an Elton John and,” he added, “even a Jimmy Kimmel. It’s still got the black dye on it.”
“I guess Jay was trying to insinuate that I dye my hair, which I don’t,” Kimmel said, asking a stagehand to bring him a wet towel.
“I just If I dyed my hair, this towel would have black on it when I did this,” he said, wiping his hair and smudging the towel — which Kimmel then quickly folded as stagehands descended on him in mock panic, armed with black hairspray and a mirror.
“Case closed,” he said.
