Be generous with Ellen: Let’s live and let live

The Issue: Backlash against JCPenney for hiring openly gay Ellen DeGeneres as a spokesperson.

I can’t believe the group One Million Moms is clamoring for Ellen DeGeneres to be let go by JCPenney (“A Gay Time at JCPenney,” PostOpinion, Feb. 10).

I always loved DeGeneres and her generous ways. She is a role model because of her kind heart and her love for people, especially children.

Moms, think again. There are better people to pick on for loose morals and a lack of family values.

Thanks, Bill O’Reilly, for being so magnanimous in “deal[ing] with homosexuality.”

You call DeGeneres a better-than-most role model, but then compare her to a communist.

When I was a child, ladies in the South would say, “Oh, Betty. I love the right side of that hat.” That wasn’t a compliment, and your column is not uplifting to the gay community.

I’m a heterosexual, married Republican and was raised and educated a devout Catholic.

I’m appalled at what this group considers morals. Why is someone’s sexual orientation brought into question when it comes to their morals? Just because DeGeneres is gay, it doesn’t mean she’s any less of a person with values.

Would they be happier if Arnold Schwarzenegger were the rep for JCPenney?
