He’s Ging-‘richer’

WASHINGTON — Don’t count out Newt Gingrich just yet.

The down-and-out Republican presidential hopeful yesterday hit the jackpot when Las Vegas casino billionaire Sheldon Adelson pledged another $10 million to help Gingrich.

The cash infusion to a pro-Gingrich super PAC called Winning Our Future came just in time to re-energize the flagging Gingrich campaign ahead of two primaries on Feb. 28 and the crucial Super Tuesday contests on March 6.

Adelson, whose $21 billion fortune makes him the eighth richest man in America, and his family have already given more than $11 million to support Gingrich’s run.

That brings the total Adelson contributed to $21 million.

The Gingrich campaign has been on the rocks — down in the polls and running out of money — since he got trounced by Mitt Romney in the Florida primary on Jan. 31.

He also got pushed aside by Rick Santorum, who emerged as a new frontrunner after picking up support among conservatives who had abandoned Gingrich.

Adelson gave $5 million to the super PAC in the run-up to the South Carolina primary on Jan. 21, which Gingrich won decisively.

The cash helped finance a barrage of TV and radio ads attacking Romney in South Carolina.

Adelson’s wife, Miriam, gave another $5 million a week before the Florida contest. Another $1 million was donated by her daughters and son-in-law, according to federal filings.

The billionaire has said he’s backing Gingrich because of their shared commitment to Israel.

But he has also said he’ll support whoever wins the GOP nomination to challenge President Obama.
