Sacha Baron Cohen not banned from Oscars — but his ‘Dictator’ character is

‘The Dictator’ has been banned!

Representatives for the Academy Awards told funnyman Sacha Baron Cohen that he can’t come to the red carpet dressed up as General Aladeen from his upcoming comedy “The Dictator.”

“He’s still invited. We would love for him to come,” as Oscars rep said of Cohen. “We have expressed that we don’t feel it’s appropriate to use our Oscar red carpet as a venue for a movie promotional stunt.”

A rep for Cohen could not be immediately reached for comment tonight.

Asked what would happen if Cohen promised to leave Gen. Aladeen at home, but then flipped the Oscar rep said: “We’ll have to cross that bridge when we get to that.”

Cohen’s new comedy is about a nutty strong man that’s part-Moammar Khadafy, a little Saddam Hussein, with hints of Kim Jong il.

Cohen is a voting member of the Academy. He’s in the cast of “Hugo,” which has been nominated for 11 Oscars, playing the evil train station inspector.

The British comic is best known for his 2007 hit, “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.” In that flick, he fools Americans into believing he’s a antisemitic journalist from Kazakhstan.
