Fans plan birthday party for Steve Jobs

Long live Steve Jobs!

Putting aside any criticism that it may be too soon, a pair of Mac-obsessed entrepreneurs plan to stage a “birthday party” tomorrow for the late Apple founder outside the company’s flagship store at 59th Street and Fifth Avenue, The Post has learned.

To fete what would have been Jobs’ 57th birthday, dancers will gyrate to Bob Dylan songs while vegetarian birthday cake is served and black turtlenecks are handed out to hundreds of Apple fans, according to the event’s organizers, Brendan McElroy and Seth Rogers.

That’s despite the fact that the legendary tech tycoon died just four-and-a-half months ago, spurring worldwide grief among fans of his MacBooks, iPhones and iPads.

“He’s part of the culture now, I don’t think there’s any avoiding it,” said 23-year-old Rogers, community development manager at StackExchange, which operates a Mac-focused online forum called Ask Different.

“If you want to respect his memory, the best way of doing it is focusing on a lot of the positive memories we have of him,” he said.

Toward that end, he and McElroy originally were planning to display a bevy of classic Apple products, from the clunky Macintosh Classic to candy-colored iMacs.

But those proved “quite difficult to get,” according to Rogers.

McElroy, the founder of a chain of fix-it shops called Dr. Brendan Mac Repair, said while the event is planned for 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., he hadn’t yet notified Apple.

“Maybe we should give them the heads-up,” Rogers said.

Fan sites devoted to Apple and Jobs have been eerily quiet ahead of his birthday.

Likewise, the company, which celebrated Jobs’ birthday last year with a MacBook upgrade, has kept mum.

An Apple spokesman didn’t respond to requests for comment.
