Spice Girls discuss London Olympics reunion

MELBOURNE, Australia — The Spice Girls will reform to sing at the Olympics in London, according to singer Mel B — however two of her bandmates have already said that a reunion is not on the cards.

The singer, whose full name is Melanie Brown, told Melbourne’s Triple M radio station Monday that she was “a really crap liar” when host Eddie McGuire pressed her about performing at the Olympics, the Herald Sun reported.

“I should have just said no,” she said.

However, two of her bandmates flatly denied any reunion when asked over the weekend if it was a possibility ahead of the Olympic Games and Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in June.

Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice, said the five singers were approached to play at a concert for the Queen alongside stars including Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Elton John, but they were unable to accept.

“The thing with the Spice Girls is it was so flattering to be asked to do the Jubilee,” she told the Daily Mirror.

“But we have lots on our plates and we are all so focused on the end of the year and ‘Viva Forever,’ the musical. The Jubilee isn’t going to happen. But the musical is going to be really great and we’re focusing on that.”

Meanwhile, Melanie Chisholm, aka Mel C or Sporty Spice, told British TV show “Lorraine” that performances at both events had been under discussion but are definitely not going to happen and their reunion in 2007 was the band’s “final farewell.”

“It’s such an incredible opportunity and the concert looks like it’s going to be out of this world,” Chisholm said.

“But unfortunately — bad news for any Spice Girls fans — we don’t plan to perform or reform, so I’m sorry to disappoint anybody. We often have things that we talk about and then the Olympics and the Diamond Jubilee came up and it was under discussion but unfortunately it’s not going to happen.

“We have to respect each other’s wishes and we reformed in 2007 and we had an amazing time. The show was incredible and that kind of feels like our final farewell.”

Brown, however, did not confirm or deny the group would be performing at a concert in London as part of Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

“I don’t want to confirm or deny any of it. But we are definitely getting together because we’ve got our Spice Girls musical coming out this year. So I’m hoping yeah,” she said.

The Spice Girls formed in 1994 and broke up in 2000.
