Gilly sheds GOP challenger

New York Republican Harry Wilson is running for the Yahoo! board, not US Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand’s seat, The Post has learned.

Shareholder activist Dan Loeb last week launched a proxy battle against the search giant — and his slate of candidates for Yahoo!’s board includes Wilson.

The proxy contest would occur this summer, at the same time Democrat Gillibrand will be campaigning for her re-election.

“While I’ve given serious consideration [to running against Gillibrand], I’m extremely unlikely to make the run,” Wilson said

Wilson, who narrowly lost the 2010 New York state comptroller race, was seen as the GOP’s best hope to unseat Gillibrand.

Nassau Comptroller George Maragos has announced he’ll seek the GOP nomination to challenge Gillibrand, although political insiders doubt he can beat her.

Wilson served on the advisory committee of the federal Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp., an independent agency that insures private pension plans.

His résumé also includes a stint on President Obama’s Auto Task Force, which rescued General Motors and Chrysler.
