Man accused of running over girlfriend extradited to NJ, set to be arraigned on murder charges

The deranged New Jersey man accused of running over his girlfriend three times and leaving her to die on a busy street was extradited this morning to New Jersey, where he will be arraigned on murder charges, authorities said.

Charles J. Ann, 26, of Fort Lee, allegedly fled the scene Monday evening, but was tracked down at a friend’s house in Flushing, Queens, with a stack of cash and his passport. Authorities believe that he was going to flee to South Korea.

Ann was charged with murder and is expected to be held in lieu of $3 million bail once he’s extradited to New Jersey, prosecutors said.

Ann said nothing and looked straight at reporters as he walked out of Queens Supreme Court following his extradition hearing. He was escorted into a car by two New York State Troopers.

His lawyer, Uchenna Emeagwali, said Ann is ready to face New Jersey authorities.

“He now understands how serious this case is,” he said.

Ann is slated to face a New Jersey judge on Monday, authorities said.

The horrifying death brought a grisly end to Ann’s tumultuous, yearlong romance with Aena Hong, 25, who recently went to cops for an order of protection.

Witnesses told The Post earlier this week that the two argued as she walked down Inwood Terrace in Fort Lee and he followed in his Hyundai Sonata at around 5 p.m., just a block from the town’s Police Department.

The estranged lovers talked about their troubled, violent relationship, which Hong wanted to end, authorities said.

Ann gave up and drove away — but made a U-turn and sped back toward Hong the wrong way down the one-way street.

“As the victim was crossing the road, Charles Ann rapidly accelerated his motor vehicle, striking Ms. Hong,” Bergen County Prosecutor Jon K. Molinelli said.

“The investigation further revealed that after striking the victim, the driver, Ann, put the car on reverse and backed out over the victim and subsequently drove over the victim again.”
