THAME, England — Bee Gees star Robin Gibb is in remission from cancer and plans to fly to the US to do a TV interview with Piers Morgan next month.
Doctors told the “Stayin’ Alive” singer that his treatment for liver and colon cancer worked and he is now in remission from the disease.
“I am beating cancer and I can’t wait to carry on with my work,” the 62 year old told a close friend, according to the Sunday Mirror.
“My work means everything to me and keeps me going. I want everyone, all my fans, to know I am OK … their love helps me so much,” he added.
Gibb told managers he now wants to fulfill his work commitments and is already booked on a plane to New York for an interview with CNN host Morgan.
He is particularly keen to promote “The Titanic Requiem,” a new album he has recorded with his son RJ Gibb and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra which commemorates the sinking of the Titanic.
Gibb is booked on Morgan’s CNN show on April 17, which will be the 100th anniversary of the night the doomed ship was due to arrive in New York.
The star has been battling health problems since August 2010 when he was rushed to the hospital for emergency gastrointestinal surgery.
Fans had feared originally that the singer was suffering from the same condition that contributed to the unexpected death of his twin brother and former band mate, Maurice, who died from a heart attack in 2003, aged 53, during surgery for a twisted intestine.
But the Sunday Mirror revealed in November 2011 that he had been battling cancer for several months, undergoing radiotherapy and Âchemotherapy sessions.
Despite a setback last week, when the singer was hospitalized with an unrelated condition, Robin Gibb is said to be remarkably positive about his recovery and has thanked his wife Dwina for helping him battle the disease.
“I could not have done it without the love of Dwina,” Gibb told his friend. “She has never left my side and is a wonderful person.”
