Stony Brook wins at buzzer

Dallis Joyner’s tip-in at the buzzer lifted Stony Brook past Albany 57-55 in the America East Conference tournament semifinals yesterday in Hartford.

Joyner, who finished with 14 points for the top-seeded Seawolves (22-8), swooped in for the putback on Dave Coley’s jumper as the clock expired. Officials reviewed the play after the buzzer sounded, but the final bucket was upheld.

Stony Brook, led by Bryan Dougher’s 15 points, hosts the tournament championship on Saturday against Vermont(21-11), a 77-73 winner over Hartford (9-21) in double overtime.

Kentucky 74, Florida 59

Freshman Anthony Davis had 22 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks, Terrence Jones added 19 points as No. 1 Kentucky beat host No. 16 Florida to cap a perfect SEC season.

Kentucky (30-1, 16-0) extended its winning streak to 22 games and secured its hold on a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. The Wildcats become just the third team since Alabama in 1956 to go unbeaten in SEC play. The other two were Kentucky in 1996 and 2003. Patric Young led the Gators (22-9, 10-6) with 21 points.

Ohio State 72, Mich. State 70

The visiting Buckeyes forged a three-way tie for the Big Ten regular-season title when William Buford made a high-arcing jumper from the top of the key with one second left.

Ohio State (25-6, 13-5) earned a share of its third straight conference championship and forced the Spartans (24-7, 13-5) to settle for having a piece of it along with No. 13 Michigan (23-8, 13-5), a 71-65 winner at Penn State.

Wisconsin 70, Illinois 56

Senior Jordan Taylor scored 16 points in his final home game for the 14th-ranked Badgers (23-8, 12-6), who have won three straight. Brandon Paul had 22 points for Illinois (17-14, 6-12).

Creighton 83, Ill. St. 79 (OT)

In St. Louis, Doug McDermott had 33 points and Antoine Young scored eight of his 14 in overtime as No. 25 Creighton (28-5) earned a NCAA bid by winning the Missouri Valley Conference tournament final.

Freshman Nic Moore had 20 points for Illinois State (20-13) and drove the length of the court for a layup with 6.5 seconds to go in regulation that forced overtime.

Drexel 68, Old Dominion 51

Frantz Massenat scored 20 points as top-seeded Drexel (27-5) won its 18th consecutive game, beating Old Dominion (20-13) to advance to tonight’s championship of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament in Richmond, Va. VCU met George Mason in the other semifinal.

Ark. St. 64, Mid. Tenn. 61

Trey Finn scored 16 points as ninth seed Arkansas State (14-19) stunned regular-season champion Middle Tennessee (25-6) in the Sun Belt tournament quarterfinals in Hot Springs, Ark.

In today’s semfinals, Arkansas State will face No. 5 seed North Texas (17-13), a 65-62 winner over Louisiana-Lafayette (16-15).
