Two men jump onto subway tracks at 72nd Street station

Two men in a span of four hours jumped onto the subway tracks this morning at 72nd Street and Broadway, causing headaches for commuters along the West Side, officials said.

The first incident occurred at about 8 a.m. when a man was struck by a northbound No. 1 train.

He suffered serious injuries and was taken to Roosevelt Hospital, according to fire officials.

Just before noon, a second person was hit by an uptown No. 2 train at the same station.

He was rushed in critical condition to St. Luke’s Hospital. He died a short time later.

As a result, northbound Nos. 2 and 3 trains were running on the local track between Times Square and 96th Street.

Southbound 2 and 3 trains were running normally.
