Massachusetts mom in custody after childrens’ throats slashed

SALEM, Mass. — A Salem, Mass., mother is in custody after police said she slashed her two children in the throat and set her apartment on fire.

Police said the children, aged three and eight, suffered very serious injuries.

They were taken from the scene to the Children’s Hospital Boston.

Officials told The Boston Globe that the mother now faces a possible charge of attempted murder.

Firefighters said the two children were found in adjacent seventh floor apartments just before 9 p.m. Sunday. One of those apartments was filled with heavy smoke and no adult was nearby, they added.

Police have not released the names of the victims or their mother.
