Suspected al Qaeda member arrested in Spain for encouraging terror acts

VALENCIA, Spain — Spanish police said Tuesday they arrested a suspected member of al Qaeda in the eastern city of Valencia.

The interior ministry said the man, who was identified only as M.H.A., was detained on suspicion of distributing videos which encouraged people to commit terrorist acts over the internet.

“His Internet activity revealed his membership of the terrorist organization and the dissemination of audiovisual products to induce, provoke and encourage terrorist acts,” a statement said.

The arrest followed an investigation which began in February last year and was ordered by a Madrid magistrate.

The suspect has Saudi Arabian nationality but was born in Amman, Jordan, according to El Periodico newspaper.
