Tebow says Jets wanted press conference

There were plenty of questions from both inside and outside the Jets organization about the wisdom of holding a press conference for a backup quarterback.

Tim Tebow wanted to make one thing clear: It wasn’t his idea.

“I can’t control doing this press conference,” Tebow said yesterday of the gathering that drew over 100 media members to Florham Park. “You can blame the guys upstairs. They wanted me to do that, so I have no say over that at all either. I’m just having fun with it, make the best of whatever situation I’m dealt.”

Jets brass is in Florida at the league meetings, so Tebow was the only person answering questions at the press conference. Tebow made it clear more than once that it was the people who run the Jets who wanted to have the press conference.

“The reason we’re doing this today is I have bosses, too, and they wanted me to stand up and talk to y’all,” he said. “I can blame it on them because they made me do it.”
