VIDEO: Cops wound ex-con in Harlem shootout

A rookie cop yesterday wounded a man during a shootout on a Harlem street, authorities said.

When two officers approached a group standing in front of the Drew Hamilton Houses at about 6:30 p.m., Franklyn Nunez bolted up Frederick Douglass Boulevard, police said,

The cop gave chase, and Nunez allegedly spun around and fired twice. No one was struck and the officer returned fire.

He hit Nunez, 23, in the chest and upper left thigh. He was in stable condition at Harlem Hospital. A .45-caliber gun and two shell casings were recovered.

Nunez was charged with criminal use of a firearm, assaulting an officer, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of stolen property and disorderly conduct.

Nunez allegedly used hollow-point bullets, which are illegal. His gun was reported stolen in North Carolina last November.

He did two years in prison on a weapons conviction.
