One dead as subway trains hit two men

Two men were hit by subway trains in separate incidents yesterday, leaving one dead, authorities said.

A drunken 24-year-old man first stumbled onto the elevated tracks at the Broadway station at 31st Street in Astoria, Queens, at around 5:15 a.m. and was struck by a Manhattan-bound N train, cops said.

He was crushed and pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not immediately released pending family notification.

Less than three hours later, a 46-year-old man was hit as he wandered the tracks just south of the 96th Street Station on the Upper West Side in Manhattan at around 8:05 a.m., officials said.

The conductor of the train saw the man but couldn’t stop in time, according to an MTA spokesman. The unidentified victim was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in serious but stable condition.

The accident trapped the passengers — including churchgoers headed to Palm Sunday services — on the northbound C train for about an hour.

“It’s a miracle. I thank God [the victim] left the station breathing. Now, I got to get to church,” said straphanger Michelle Lipton, 58, who saw the injured man when she finally exited the train.

“That guy was one lucky son of a gun,’’ an MTA worker said.
