Granny too old for Walmart: suit

An ailing 73-year-old Long Island grandmother filed a discrimination complaint against retail giant Walmart — claiming she was fired after she failed to move a heavy truckload full of goods on her own at the Nesconset store.

“All of a sudden, they have a 73-year-old grandmother moving heavy pallets of stuff and they know she’s had a heart attack,’’ said lawyer Lenard Leeds, who is representing Anne Squatrito, of South Setauket.

“It’s outrageous,’’ said Leeds. “They were just trying to get rid of her. It’s blatant age discrimination.”

Two weeks before Christmas 2011, the 5-foot-5 grandma was told to move 200 loads of merchandise alone, Leeds said.

Walmart spokesman Lorenzo Lopez said Squatrito, a 17-year employee, was fired “for repeatedly failing to observe our time- clock policies.”
