America stays ‘Hunger’-y

The moviegoing appetite for “The Hunger Games” remained strong over the weekend, with the teen action-thriller taking in $61.1 million to remain the No. 1 film for a second week and becoming the top-grossing film of the year.

Studio estimates put the Lionsgate film well ahead of the action sequel “Wrath of the Titans,” which opened in second place with $34.2 million.

Julia Roberts’ comic “Snow White” reinvention “Mirror Mirror” debuted at No. 3 with $19 million. Released by Relativity Media, the film casts Roberts as the wicked queen, opposite Lily Collins as Snow White.

“The Hunger Games,” starring Jennifer Lawrence as a teen forced to compete in a televised death match, lifted its domestic total to $251 million after just 10 days, to become the top-grossing film of 2012 so far.
