Carla Bruni-Sarkozy wears wig to travel incognito in Paris

PARIS — Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, wife of the French president, wears a wig and takes the subway to travel incognito in Paris, she said in an interview published Friday.

“With a wig nobody recognizes me in the metro,” the former model, heiress and singer told Le Nouvel Observateur. “Recently, my handbag was even searched in the museum of the navy.”

“Fame isn’t difficult to bear because I like to disguise myself literally and figuratively,” she said, according to the website The Local France.

Bruni-Sarkozy also noted the difference between herself and staid former first ladies, such as Claude Pompidou in the 1970s.

“Next to Madame Pompidou, I’m Lady Gaga!” she said.
