Stall-e-lujah! Filthy airport toilets get spruce-up

Fares aren’t going down and you’ll still have to get there hours early, but in 90 days or so bathrooms at the city’s airports should be cleaner than ever.

That was the pledge of the guy whose agency oversees the three low-rated local airports.

Port Authority Executive Director Pat Foye said restroom overhauls would be part of numerous noticeable upgrades coming soon to Kennedy, La Guardia and Newark airports. All three had terminals rated among the 10 worst in the world by Frommer’s travel Web site in January.

“My goal is not to be on the Frommer’s list in 12 to 24 months,” said Foye at the groundbreaking of a $160 million expansion of the Delta Air Lines terminals at La Guardia.

Delta is also spending $1.2 billion to build a new facility at Kennedy, where its outmoded Terminal 3 was named worst in the world.

Foye has been talking about launching the 90-day makeover since at least February. Yesterday, he said the 90-day clock would start “in the next short period.”
