Newark Mayor Cory Booker hospitalized after rushing into burning house to rescue neighbors

Newark Mayor Cory Booker was taken to the hospital Thursday night after rushing into his neighbor’s burning house and helping to pull two people to safety, a spokeswoman said.

The dramatic scene began around 9:50 p.m. when Booker arrived home and saw the house next door on fire.

The fire department had not yet arrived on scene, so Booker sprung into action.

He and two members of his security detail ran into the home and rescued the unidentified neighbors.

Booker was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

“Thanks 2 all who are concerned. Just suffering smoke inhalation,” Booker tweeted.

“We got the woman out of the house. We are both off to hospital. I will b ok.”
