The Atlanta Falcons have been offered the opportunity to appear this summer on HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” ESPN reported Thursday.
It is unclear, however, if the team will choose to appear on the program’s seventh season.
The show, which follows an NFL team through training camp and the preseason, is coming off its most successful installment two years ago, when foul-mouthed head coach Rex Ryan and the Jets were featured.
“Hard Knocks” did not air in 2011 due to the NFL lockout.
The return of the Jets to the show is favored by owner Woody Johnson, but the interest is not shared by head coach Rex Ryan, according to FOX Sports.
Ryan is said to be wary about adding another distraction to his team, which is coming off a late-season collapse marked by locker room issues. The hoopla around the team was ramped up last month with the trade for Tim Tebow.
The network was keen to have the Peyton Manning-led Broncos on the show, but the team was not interested.
If the Falcons appear, the show likely will focus on the team’s inability to transfer its regular season success into the playoffs. Under head coach Mike Smith, the team is 43-21 since 2008, but 0-3 in the playoffs.
