The 2013 race for mayor: City Hall’s ‘Ray’ of light

The Issue: Calls for NYPD Police Commissioner Ray Kelly to consider running for mayor next year.

“Ray Kelly for Mayor?” (Editorial, April 17).

Why not? New York City could do a lot worse, and it probably will.

There is no doubt that the next mayor will bring us back to the dark ages of endless government spending and taxes.

There is no question that if New Yorkers are serious about keeping the crime rate down, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly should be their choice for the next mayor.

Just think of the alternative: four of the most liberal, pandering Democrats, with their wrist-slapping treatment of criminals, their setting up New York’s already- shaky economy for a move backward and their union bosses dragging it further downhill.

Whether you’re a Democrat or Republican, think back to the days when Rudy Giuliani was mayor.

We had safety and security. If that’s what New Yorkers are interested in, their answer is occupying the police commissioner’s office.

While I applaud The Post’s favorable view of Kelly as a mayoral candidate, I intend to vote for the candidate who promises to undo the crazy bike lanes and other traffic-congesting changes implemented by Department of Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan.

She is the worst commissioner in the city’s history.

In addition to believing our one-way, double-parked, filled streets are multi-laned boulevards, she thinks she can convert our city into Amsterdam.

Run, Ray. Run.

You will see that the majority of New Yorkers would vote for you.
