Planet Hollywood ‘scammers’ accused of skimming $60,000

That’s a lot of BBQ bacon cheeseburgers.

A manager and six employees of the Planet Hollywood restaurant in Times Square were busted yesterday for allegedly skimming $60,000 in cash from the till of the tourist hot spot, sources told The Post.

The servers worked out a scam in which they would present a table of diners a legitimate check for what they ate and drank. But once the customers paid up, the staffers would change the bill at a lower amount, ring that up and split the difference among themselves, the sources said.

The mastermind of the alleged scheme was identified as Greg Trone, 33, who faces a grand-larceny rap.

The other workers — three men and three women — were not identified.

Sources said Trone cooked up the get-rich-slow scam after management told him in November the eatery would soon close for renovations and that the staff would be laid off.

Investigators from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office summoned the seven suspects off the floor of the restaurant at 1540 Broadway and brought them out a side entrance on 45th Street in handcuffs from 5:12 p.m. to 6:50 p.m.

Most of those escorted out said nothing. A woman who identified herself as a spokeswoman for the restaurant declined comment.
