Flood watch issued for NYC metro area due to rainfall, gusty winds

A flood watch has been issued for the New York City metro area as a storm system brings several inches of rainfall and gusty winds to the region.

National Weather Service meteorologist Joe Pollina says the heaviest rains are expected over night into Monday morning as the system moves into the area. Rainfall is expected to be around 2 ½ to 3 ½ inches.

A flood watch is in effect through Monday morning for New York City, Long Island and the Lower Hudson Valley. Pollina says there could be some flooding in urban areas with poor drainage.

The rain would be welcome for some on Long Island, which has experienced severe drought conditions.

Pollina says showers can be expected through Tuesday before the region begins to dry out.
